The world of angels - by Tim Millen - Part 1

Tim Millen has given me permission to post the topical study he brought to us at Bottear on Sunday night. It's an interesting and very different topic than the normal but his presentation of it was very Christ centered.
I'll probably post it in sections over the next few days.

Before beginning Tim read Hebrews 1 and declared Christ as more glorious than the angels, declaring His deity and His work of salvation!

Part 1 (Do angels really exist? Where do they come from? and How many angels are there?)

The World of Angels
The word “angel” comes from the Greek word aggelos, which means “messenger.”
The matching Hebrew word mal'ak has the same meaning.

THE FIRST QUESTION TO ASK IS –
DO ANGELS REALLY EXIST?
Well if you believe the Bible is the Word of God then there is no problem in proving the existence of angels.
Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the O.T. and 165 times in the N.T. so there is plenty of info in Scripture to allow us to build a foundation for our knowledge of angelic beings.
The mention of angels is not confined to just one book or one writer or even one period of history. Their existence is mentioned in at least 34 books of the Bible and from the earliest book Genesis to the last book Revelation.
The Lord Jesus Himself spoke of the real existence of angels.
He too believed in their real existence
(Mt 18:10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”
Mt 26:53 “Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?”).

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?
The Scripture speaks about the creation of angels, therefore, it is clear that they have not existed from all eternity Colossians 1:16-17 explains:
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
The time of their creation is never definitely specified, but it is before He created the earth—because according to Job 38:4-7, “the sons of God shouted for joy” when God laid the foundations of the earth.

HOW MANY ANGELS ARE THERE?
While the Scriptures give no definite figures, we are told that the number of angels is massive.
Daniel 7:10 “A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened.”
Hebrews 12:22“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels.”
It appears that all angels were created at the same time. No new angels are being added to the number.
Angels don’t die or become extinct; therefore they never decrease in number.
